| ID | 1223 | The United Nations Disengagement Observer Force Austrian Battalion (UNDOF Ausbatt), the Austrian contingent of the UN peacekeeping force (blue berets) is in the Middle East.
Under Secretary of Defense Karl Lütgendorf an Austrian UN battalion (Austrian Battalion United Nations Emergency Force) was moved between 3rd and 19th June, 1974 by the Suez Canal to Syria on the Golan as a part of United Nations Disengagement Observer Force. 40 vehicles drove 190,000 kilometers without failures by the transfer. All together 720 Austrians were members of the UNEF.
This troop is used in the northern segment of the troops decartelization zone on the Golanhöhen between Syria and Israel. The contingent strength amounts to about 370 soldiers. Their order is supervising the troops separation agreement between Israel and Syria.
The headquarters were till 1994 in Damascus, afterwards in the camp Faouar (with Amret al Faouar) where also the stick company is accommodated. Other companies are the first, seconds and the third company.
